American Apparel Serves Up Racy Ads ... Again
Taking the old adage “sex sells” to a new level, American Apparel has once again put forth an ad campaign that has folks up in arms.
The new spread featuring two women in thong-style stockings has been called “irresponsible” by an advertising critic group in the United Kingdom.
An American Apparel rep maintained that all of the company’s images have been “completely decent and were a fair representation of their product line.”
However, the Advertising Standards Authority stated, “We considered both poses were sexually provocative and concluded that the images were irresponsible and likely to cause widespread offense, because they were displayed on a website which could be viewed by, and was likely to have appeal to, children under 16 years of age. The ads must not appear again.”
